New York man accused of breaking woman’s spine in alleged hate crime

The New York Police Department is searching for a man who allegedly attacked a woman and fractured her spine on the subway after shouting an anti-gay slur at her.

Police shared on Twitter that a black male between 50 and 60 years old is wanted for an assault stemming from a Nov. 30 incident in Queens.

Police said in tweet that included a video of the alleged assailant that he “used a slur about the victim’s sexual orientation & pushed her to the ground from behind causing injury.”

{mosads}The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is probing the incident, according the New York Daily News. The newspaper reported that the suspect pushed and punched the victim after he saw another woman kiss her on the cheek.

Sources in the police department told the Daily News that the suspect called the woman a racial slur, leading the woman to argue with the man.

The NYPD said the victim was punched in the back of the head and shoved to the ground while on the train, according to the newspaper. She was later treated at a hospital for a fractured spine.

Police said the suspect fled the scene at a subway stop in Queens, according to NBC News.
