Parkland survivor David Hogg accepted to Harvard

Parkland, Fla., school shooting survivor and outspoken gun control activist David Hogg announced on Saturday that he plans to attend Harvard University next fall to study political science.

Hogg graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland this spring, months after a gunman opened fire in the school, killing 17 people and injuring several others in February.

After the shooting, the 18-year-old and his fellow classmates reignited the debate around gun control, launching a youth movement surrounding the issue. The group helped to organize the “March for Our Lives” rally in Washington, D.C., that attracted thousands of anti-gun violence protests earlier this year.{mosads}

Hogg then took a gap year to work on this year’s midterm elections and to register young voters. Hogg said he plans to run for Congress as soon as he is eligible at age 25.  

Hogg may be joined at the Boston school by his classmate and fellow activist Jaclyn Corin, who announced her acceptance to Harvard earlier this month.

Hogg spoke openly in the spring about how he had been turned down from some of the colleges he had applied to before his graduation.

He then got into a verbal sparring match with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who taunted him on Twitter over his rejections.

Hogg fired back by sharing a list of advertisers for her show, causing several of them to pull their ads with the host.

“I’m not going to stoop to her level and go after her on a personal level,” he said at the time. “I’m going to go after her advertisers.”
