DC market offers temporary work for furloughed federal workers

A market in northwest Washington, D.C., says it is hiring workers who are furloughed because of the partial government shutdown.

Glen’s Garden Market wrote in a tweet Tuesday evening that it is hiring both federal employees and contractors who are out of work during the shutdown.

{mosads}”We’re hiring furloughed friends (feds and contractors) to complete eight distinct, one to two-day projects around the store for pay and benefits. Doing our part to help out in this crazy time,” it said in the tweet.

The government shutdown, which is currently in its fifth week, has forced roughly 800,000 federal workers to be furloughed or work without pay.

President Trump and congressional Democrats have been in a stalemate over Trump’s demand for more than $5 billion to fund a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Democrats have repeatedly vowed not to approve any funding for a border wall.

The Senate plans to vote Thursday on two proposals to reopen the government, including one with Trump’s demand for wall money and a 3-week funding bill.
