Meghan McCain knocks Trump for latest attack on father

Meghan McCain on Sunday tweeted that her late father, the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), lives “rent free” in President Trump’s head after the president chastised him twice this weekend.

Deleted Meghan McCain Tweet

Meghan McCain deleted the tweet shortly after it was posted, though a few news outlets and many on social media took note of the remark.

She later shared a Weekly Standard column from last May in which conservative commentator Charlie Sykes wrote that “John McCain haunts the Trump White House, not because of his votes or policy disagreements, but because he represents the man that Donald Trump cannot ever be.”

{mosads}The tweets came after Trump attacked John McCain amid reports that one of his associates had shared a dossier of allegations about Trump’s ties to Russia with the media.

“So it was indeed (just proven in court papers) ‘last in his class’ (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the Election. He & the Dems, working together, failed (as usual). Even the Fake News refused this garbage!” Trump tweeted.

Meghan McCain also responded to Trump on Saturday after the president tweeted that the late-senator had “far worse ‘stains'” than spreading the dossier, referencing his vote against the Republican attempt to repeal ObamaCare in 2017.

“No one will ever love you the way they loved my father….,” Meghan McCain tweeted. “I wish I had been given more Saturday’s with him. Maybe spend yours with your family instead of on twitter obsessing over mine?”

Trump’s insults of John McCain date back to his time on the campaign trail when he suggested the Vietnam veteran was not a war hero because he was captured. The two continued to spar as the senator remained one of the most consistent GOP critics of the president.

Trump has repeatedly brought up John McCain’s “no” vote on the GOP’s attempt to repeal ObamaCare since the senator died last August.

Meghan McCain said Monday on “The View,” the ABC show she co-hosts, that Trump “spends his weekend obsessing over great men because he knows it and I know it and all of you know it — he will never be a great man.”
