Suspect in New Zealand massacre bought rifles online: report

A gun shop owner in New Zealand said Monday that he made online sales of guns to the man accused of killing dozens of people in the country late last week, The Associated Press reported.

David Tipple, the owner of Gun City in Christchurch, acknowledged that his business sold four guns and ammunition to the 28-year-old accused of killing 50 people at two mosques.

{mosads}The suspect bought the weapons through a “police-verified online mail order process,” Tipple said, according to the AP, and the store “detected nothing extraordinary” about the buyer.

Police said they are certain the suspect was the only gunman, but that they aren’t ruling out the possibility he had support from other people.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern vowed in the aftermath of Friday’s massacre that the country’s gun laws would change.

“While work is being done as to the chain of events that led to both the holding of this gun license and the possession of these weapons, I can tell you one thing right now: Our gun laws will change,” Ardern said last week.

The AP reported that Ardern said Monday that the reforms would be announced within 10 days.
