Ralph Lauren features same-sex couple in family ad campaign for first time

Fashion brand Ralph Lauren unveiled a new ad campaign featuring its first same-sex couple.

The “Family is who you love” spring campaign features eight real families, not paid actors, Ad Age reported.

The same-sex couple, Helena Tejedor and Cecile Winckler, took to social media to share their portraits for the apparel company.

“I don’t really know how this happened but @cecilion and I are the first same sex couple to ever feature in a Ralph Lauren campaign in the history of RL,” Tejedor wrote on Instagram last week.

The new campaign for the 52-year-old company also features an Asian family, a black family and a family that spans multiple generations, the outlet noted.

“We live in a world where the meaning of family is bigger, broader and more personal than it has ever been before,” Jonathan Bottomley, chief marketing officer, said in a statement to AdAge. “We believe that family is one of the most positive forces and powerful unifiers for all of us today.”

He added that that the campaign is a “fresh expression of that idea.”

IKEA featured same-sex couples in ad campaigns more than 20 years ago but several brands have done so in recent years, including Gap, Tiffany & Co., Wells Fargo and Lucky Charms, according to AdAge.

David’s Bridal ran its first commercial with a same-sex couple in January.
