Gingrich says progressives will take over Democratic Party because moderates ‘don’t like to fight’
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) predicted in a new interview that “dominating left-wingers” will soon take over the Democratic Party because more moderate lawmakers “don’t like to fight.”
Gingrich, speaking with radio host John Catsimatidis on AM 970 in New York in an interview that aired Sunday, added that the left-wing in the party “is now so big and so powerful” that it’s difficult for him to imagine moderates keeping control.
{mosads}”The left-wing in the Democratic Party is now so big and so powerful that is very hard to imagine how they’re going to be able to get away from the kind of control that’s building,” he said.
“And it’s partly just toughness,” Gingrich continued. “The people who are moderate and common-sense and practical don’t like to fight.”
Gingrich added that those who are further left in the party “enjoy fighting.”
“The people who are these dominating left-wingers – they enjoy fighting. They think it’s good to fight,” he said. “That’s part of what we’re having to cope with. I watch people who frankly duck and get out of the way, because they’re confronted with that kind of challenge.”
