George Conway contrasts Trump denying ‘cover-ups’ with check to Michael Cohen

George Conway, a lawyer and husband to White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, pushed back on a statement President Trump made Wednesday in which he said “I don’t do cover-ups” by tweeting out a picture of a check Trump wrote to his former attorney Michael Cohen.

“’I don’t do cover-ups,’” Conway, a frequent Trump critic, tweeted Thursday, with a picture of the check.

{mosads}Trump made the “cover-up” comments after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) accused him of engaging in a cover up while discussing numerous House investigations of the president.

Speaking from the Rose Garden after abruptly terminating an infrastructure meeting with Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the president said he doesn’t “do cover ups.”

His administration has defied several Congressional subpoenas, stoking ire, and leading to some Democratic calls for an impeachment inquiry.

Trump reportedly wrote a check to Michael Cohen to reimburse him for the $130,000 Cohen paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels so she would not discuss an alleged affair with Trump.

One such check for $35,000, is dated Aug. 1, 2017, and has the president’s signature. This appears to be the check, dated about six months into Trump’s presidency, that Conway tweeted out.
