White House spokesman: Scaramucci ‘trying to profit’ from Trump’s name

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley on Sunday accused former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci of “trying to profit” off President Trump’s name with a recent string of media appearances criticizing the president.

Gidley said on Fox News’ “MediaBuzz” that people like Scaramucci are “considered persona non grata if they’re in Donald Trump’s orbit and support this president, but the moment they say something bad about the president, they all of a sudden become the toast of the town.”

Appearing on the show in a later segment, Scaramucci told host Howard Kurtz he did not blame Gidley.

“Hogan can say that, I get that,” Scaramucci said. “He’s got a very tough job, I don’t even take it personally. I’m sure he’s terrorized in fear most of the day from dealing with the guy, but I get it.”

Scaramucci, who lasted 11 days in his White House position, continued to defend Trump in media appearances after his firing, but publicly broke with him in recent weeks, tweeting that Trump’s “increasingly divisive rhetoric — and damage it’s doing to fabric of our society — outweighs any short-term economic gain.”

He said last week that it was “pretty obvious” he didn’t support Trump’s reelection.

Trump has fired back at Scaramucci, tweeting that the former aide has “gone off the rails” and accusing him of being embittered by his inability to get another White House job.
