One person has died and at least 18 others were reportedly injured after a building partially collapsed at a New Orleans construction site.
At about 9 a.m. Saturday, the New Orleans Fire Department received reports of a partial collapse at the Hard Rock Hotel in the city’s downtown area that was under construction, an official told reporters at the scene.
The collapse took place on the building’s sixth through eighth floors. Officials say another collapse could occur due to the structure’s instability.
“This remains a very fluid and a very dangerous situation,” Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) told reporters at the scene.{mosads}
Officials removed several people from the building, and a total of 19 people have been treated by emergency medical services.
Three people are still missing after the collapse, officials said.
Fire department and emergency services officials are working to evacuate people in surrounding buildings.
Officials are asking people to avoid the area.
