The Pepsi Center in Denver will begin offering aluminum cups it calls “infinitely recyclable,” owner Kroenke Sports & Entertainment announced Tuesday.
The Pepsi Center is the first major professional sports arena to start offering the cups, the company said.
The Ball Corporation plans to produce a limited supply of the aluminum cups, used for both soda and beer products at the Pepsi Center, through 2020.{mosads}
Ball claims the cups are a more sustainable packaging option compared to plastic or paper ones, and said the cups will be able to be recycled like aluminum cans.
The cups can be customized with logos and graphics, according to the Ball Corporation.
“KSE and the Pepsi Center have prioritized sustainability efforts in recent years, which have brought improvements around limiting energy use and consumption, and enhancing our recycling opportunities is a natural continuation of these efforts,” Jim Martin, president and CEO of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, said in a statement. “Introducing the aluminum cup option provides a more sustainable gameday and event experience for our fans and we are thrilled to be the first professional sports arena to lead this change.”
The Pepsi Center is home to both the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche.
