Woman who trespassed in Mar-a-Lago sentenced to 8 months

A woman who bluffed her way into President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in March was sentenced to eight months in prison, according to ABC News.

A Justice Department official told ABC that Yujing Zhang, a Chinese national who was convicted in September of lying to a federal officer and entering restricted grounds, was also sentenced to two years of supervised release.

{mosads}Club staff mistakenly let Zhang into the facility on March 30. She told Secret Service officers she was there to swim and later told other officials she was there for a nonexistent meeting of Chinese American business leaders.

Investigators found several electronic devices on Zhang and in her hotel room, including four cellphones, an external hard drive and a device used to detect hidden cameras, but she was never charged with espionage-related offenses. Prosecutors initially claimed she had a flash drive containing malware but have since backtracked on that claim.  

Zhang rejected a public defender in her trial and instead represented herself. She continued to insist, both herself and through court-appointed Mandarin translators, that she had done nothing wrong during the trial, telling jurors, “I followed the instruction. I went into the Mar-a-Lago to have a visit. So that’s what I want to say, and thank you for your attention.”
