Pelosi, Ivanka Trump named to Forbes’s ‘World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and White House adviser Ivanka Trump on Thursday were named to Forbes’s “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” list.

Pelosi ranked No. 3 on the list, while Trump, who is President Trump’s oldest daughter, ranked No. 42.

Forbes cited Pelosi’s status as the country’s first female Speaker and her role in initiating the country’s fourth-ever impeachment proceedings against a sitting president as reasons for her standing on the list.

The California lawmaker launched the House’s impeachment investigation into President Trump in late September over concerns that he pressured Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a chief political rival, and 2016 election meddling.

The process has continued into December, with the House Judiciary Committee this week holding public hearings discussing two articles of impeachment over abuse of power relating to the pressure applied on Kyiv and whether the president obstructed justice by ordering aides to defy congressional subpoenas for testimony and documents.

Forbes cited Ivanka Trump’s role in the White House for her standing on the list, referencing the administration’s statements that she “helped push for the childcare tax credit passed in 2017 and the creation of a workforce apprentice program.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel ranked at the top of the list. Other prominent women included are Melinda Gates, Oprah Winfrey and climate activist Greta Thunberg, who was named Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” on Wednesday.
