Florida officials are investigating a string of shootings that targeted over a dozen vehicles on highways in Jacksonville.

Officials said multiple vehicles were hit by gunfire on the I-4 and I-95 highways Wednesday. At least 15 cars were struck, according to WFTV.

“We have received multiple reports of vehicles damaged by gunshots on eastbound I-4 and northbound I-95. No injuries reported so far,” the Volusia Sherriff’s Office said Wednesday.

“Detectives are responding to interview victims/witnesses, and the investigation is active,” it added. “Witnesses indicate a small caliber/pellet/BB gun may be involved, but that is unconfirmed.”

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) also announced that it is investigating the shootings, saying Wednesday they may have been linked to road rage.

Officials said the shootings were first reported at around 6:30 p.m. and they damaged cars in Deltona, DeLand, Daytona Beach and the Ormond area.

FHP confirmed to WFTV that a silver Honda CR-V may have been involved but would not say if a weapon was found in the car.

“It went through one window and out the other,” John James, an Atlanta resident whose car was struck, told the outlet. “It was close to me because I was right near the back windows. I thank God that I’m alive, that it didn’t strike anyone of us.”
