An overflow crowd got fiery this morning at Sen. Byron Dorgan’s (D-N.D.) healthcare town hall in Casselton, N.D.
Constituents lined up out the door to get into the meeting, the Grand Folks Herald reports. And when the event got underway, passions were running high:
Each comment brought boos and cheers, and comments prompted yelling and screaming in the crowd.
Prior to the town hall, originally schedule with Casselton-area residents, Dorgan said he wasn’t worried about protests at a series of meetings throughout the state.
“That’s just not the way North Dakotans are,” Dorgan told The Forum.

Dorgan said he’s been conducting town hall bogging down meetings during the August recess for years and didn’t expect any difficulties during this small-city tour.
“There’s an old saying: ‘When everyone in the room is thinking the same thing, nobody’s thinking very much,'” he said. “And so I’ve always welcomed a diversity of thought. I think it’s healthy. And North Dakotans always do that very respectfully.”
