Best Buy will join a growing list of retailers closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day, the company announced Tuesday, as retailers continue to struggle with the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods said that they would be closed for the holiday, following in Walmart’s footsteps from last week.

Thanksgiving Day would usually kick off Black Friday sales, which are typically when retailers list some of their lowest prices all year. The sales usually draw large crowds, which would go against public health guidelines amid the pandemic.

Best Buy and other retailers said they are shifting their sales to an online format and giving customers a larger window to participate.

“To meet our customers’ changing lives this holiday, we’re enhancing the way we fulfill orders, from offering more convenient pickup options,” the Best Buy announcement read. “We’re also going to start offering some of the hottest deals of the season earlier than ever, to make it even easier for our customers to check off their gift lists.”
