Obama targets DeMint ‘Waterloo’ remark in email
President Obama’s political arm on Tuesday sought to rally its supporters by chastising Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) for playing politics with healthcare reform.
In an email to its massive email list, Organizing for America used DeMint’s quote – “It Will Break Him” – in the subject line.
“Last week, Republican Senator Jim DeMint made it pretty clear why the opponents of health care reform are fighting so hard,” wrote Mitch Stewart, OFA’s executive director. “As he told a special interest attack group, ‘If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.'”
Stewart calls on supporters to “stand up with the president” on healthcare and sign an online petition in support of the president.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is also using its email list to help the Democrats’ healthcare effort. In an email James Carville asks for money to create an “Emergency Health Care Rapid Response Fund.”
“Republicans have already started their truth-twisting attacks,” Carville wrote. “And if we think it’s bad now, just wait till Congress leaves for the August Recess after passing the bill.”
