Reid to support Thune gun amendment – but won’t say why
A noted gun-rights enthusiast, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday said he will support a controversial amendment the Senate will consider on Wednesday by GOP Sen. John Thune (S.D.) that would allow concealed weapons to be carried across state lines.
“Yes,” Reid said simply when asked if he would vote for Thune’s amendment.
When reporters pressed for explanation. Reid declined.
“You asked me how I’m going to vote. I just told you. I’m not going to get into explaining why I’m voting. I told you how I’m going to vote,” Reid said.
The Senate is scheduled to take up Thune’s amendment at noon on Wednesday. The National Rifle Association is “scoring” it as a key vote in their scorecard of legislators.
