FBI investigating shooting involving agent on Metro train in Maryland

The FBI said it was investigating after one of its agents was involved in a shooting on a Metro train in Maryland Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred on a Red Line train near the Medical Center station in Montgomery County, Md., the bureau said in a statement. One person was wounded and taken to a local hospital. The FBI in a statement did not say who fired the shots or provide further details.

“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under investigation by the FBI’s Inspection Division,” the agency said in its statement.

“The review process is thorough and objective and is conducted as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances,” the FBI continued. “As this remains an on-going matter, the FBI has no further comment.”

Metro Transit Police said it was notified of the shooting, which occurred just before 7 a.m., NBC Washington reported. Police said they were investigating the events leading up to the shooting.

Trains were briefly forced to bypass the station, which is near the National Institutes of Health and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, according to the news outlet, but it reopened shortly after 9:30 a.m.
