Serial killer Samuel Little who confessed to more than 90 murders dies in California hospital

Samuel Little, whom the FBI identified as the most prolific known serial killer in U.S. history, died in a California hospital on Wednesday, officials said.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed that Little died at age 80 at 4:53 a.m. on Wednesday at an outside hospital. Authorities noted that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office will determine an official cause of death. 

California corrections department spokesperson Vicky Waters told The Associated Press that there were no signs of foul play. 

Little, who confessed to killing 93 people between 1970 and 2005, was serving three consecutive life sentences without parole for killing three women in the late 1980s in Los Angeles County. 

For years, Little denied committing murder, but he was convicted and sent to state prison in 2014 after his DNA was linked to evidence at the three crime scenes. Little was also extradited to Texas last year after pleading guilty to killing Denise Christie Brothers in 1994. 

Last year, the FBI announced it verified 50 of the 93 murders Little confessed to and labeled him as the most prolific known serial killer in U.S. history. The AP reported Little now has almost 60 confirmed victims. Most of his confessed killings took place in Florida and Southern California.

Living a nomadic lifestyle, Little targeted sex workers and drug addicts over his decades of killing mostly women. Several of his victims were thought to have died from overdoses.
