Hillary Clinton lauded Vice President Harris’s historic swearing-in on Wednesday, saying that she looks forward to Harris’s grand-nieces one day viewing a woman serving as vice president as “normal” and “obvious.”
“It delights me to think that what feels historical and amazing to us today—a woman sworn in to the vice presidency—will seem normal, obvious, ‘of course’ to Kamala’s grand-nieces as they grow up. And they will be right,” Clinton tweeted Wednesday, before Harris was sworn in as the first Black, Asian American and female vice president.
Harris was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina to serve on the Supreme Court. The historic moment came before Harris’s running mate, President Biden, was officially sworn as in as the 46th president.
Clinton attended the inauguration in person alongside her husband, former President Bill Clinton, as well as former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and former first ladies Laura Bush and Michelle Obama.
Clinton also shared on Wednesday that she is “so excited to call these two wonderful people ‘Mr. President’ and ‘Dr. Biden,’” alongside a photo of her family with Biden and first lady Jill Biden.
