Dodd, Conrad cleared of wrongoing

The Senate Ethics Committee has cleared Sens. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) from any wrongdoing regarding controversial loans they received from Countrywide.

But as Susan Crabtree reports, the committee admonished the Senators for not having “exercised more vigilance” in the matter.

Both Conrad and Dodd had received loans under a VIP program from Countrywide before it was acquired by Bank of America, though the lawmakers deny they traded any influence.

The AP reported recently that the Senators had been told they were getting sweetened deals.

Dodd will hold a press conference at 2 PM ET to comment on the Ethics Committee’s decision.
