Stacey Abrams on why she won’t quit working: ‘The world isn’t fair yet’

Voting rights activist and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said she won’t quit working because “the world isn’t fair yet.”

Abrams was asked during an interview with InStyle why she continues writing books and stays involved in politics instead of sitting “on a board somewhere and cash in.”

“The world isn’t fair yet,” Abrams responded. “I’m responsible for making certain that more people have access to their full potential. If you see something and know how to make it better, then that’s what you should be doing. That’s what I do.”

Abrams has remained active in Democratic politics after launching an unsuccessful bid for governor in 2018 against Gov. Brian Kemp (R).

Many credited Abrams’s work after her 2018 loss for helping to secure President Biden’s win in Georgia last year, the first time since 1992 that a Democratic presidential nominee had carried the Peach State.

Abrams has more recently been highly critical of Kemp and the Republican Party in her state after a new voting rights bill was signed into law. She went as far as to say that the new bill has racist intent behind it.

The Democrat was asked during the interview with InStyle what she would say to Kemp if she had the opportunity.

“I have very little to say to him,” Abrams said. “At this moment, my faith tells me that one should always pray for people to be better. Don’t write off a single individual, but his redemption is going to take a really long time.”
