10 people shot in New York City in alleged gang attack

Ten people are recovering from gunshot injuries following a shooting that occurred late Saturday night in the New York City borough of Queens.

New York Police Department officials said during a news conference on Sunday that the incident occurred just after 10:30 p.m. when two male suspects began firing at another group of people.

Chief of Detectives James Essig said that at around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday night two male suspects brandished their guns and began firing in the direction of a group of people who were in front of a barber shop down the street.

Police said the two male suspects immediately fled the scene after hopping on two scooters being driven by the other two male suspects.

“This was, as I can most accurately describe it, this is a brazen, coordinated attack for a lack of a better word,” Essig said.

Police said that 10 individuals had been shot. The ages of the victims ranged from 19 to 72 years old.

Essig said that while the investigation is in its preliminary stage, three of the victims were known Trinitarios gang members, which police believe were the intended targets of the shooting.

Essig said that police believed the other seven victims were unintended targets.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, police said.

Police later provided video footage on Twitter of the two suspects brandishing their guns on the sidewalk and being picked up by the other suspects.

The identities of the suspects are not known at this time.
