Biden approval rating drops to record-low 48 percent in Morning Consult poll

President Biden’s approval rating has fallen to 48 percent, a record low according to Morning Consult polling data released Monday.

According to the Morning Consult’s survey, 49 percent now say they disapprove of Biden following the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and the subsequent fall of the Afghan government.

Among Democrats, his approval rating has fallen from 90 percent to 87 percent. Among Republicans, it has fallen from 16 percent to 11 percent. Independents gave Biden an approval rating of 41 percent, a 2 point drop from where it had been before the Taliban took control.

“The political ramifications of a foreign policy issue that emerges more than a year before the midterm elections are impossible to parse, but the crisis that’s unfolded over the past several days appears to have compounded Biden’s growing problem with independent voters, whose net approval rating for Biden has been either even or underwater in daily tracking since the first week of July,” Morning Consult wrote in its report.

The research company noted that before Kabul fell to the Taliban, Biden still had a net-positive approval rating of 51 percent.

The Morning Consult poll was conducted from Aug. 27-29 and involved 15,623 registered U.S. voters. The results have a margin or error of plus or minus 1 percentage point.

Biden’s approval rating has dipped below 50 among multiple polls since the Taliban overthrew the Afghan government, including a Hill-HarrisX poll conducted earlier in August that found he had a net approval rating of 49 percent. A USA Today-Suffolk University poll last week had Biden’s approval rating even lower at 41 percent, with 55 percent disapproving of his job performance.
