Wildfires are encroaching near the Reagan Ranch, with the organization that maintains the historic site saying they are taking measures to protect it.

Young America’s Foundation (YAF), a conservative organization in charge of maintaining Rancho del Cielo, said they have tanker airplanes, bulldozers and other equipment ready to protect it from the fire. The group was also offered two C-130 tankers to help fight the Alisal Fire, which started Monday and has spread to more than 13,000 acres, closing parts of Highway 101.

There are around 800 firefighters working to stop the flames, with fire trucks at the Reagan Ranch and fire retardant being prepared to be sprayed on the buildings.

“Young America’s Foundation is extremely grateful for the emergency crews and YAF staff working tirelessly to protect the Reagan Ranch and all structures impacted by the Alisal Fire. We pray for their safety as they battle this fire and protect all those impacted,” YAF President Scott Walker, the former governor of Wisconsin, said.

“Over the years—with the help and leadership of our supporters, staff, and board members—we have taken the necessary steps, as much as a property owner can do, to shield Rancho del Cielo from this very threat. I have confidence our team and the emergency crews will do everything they can to protect Rancho del Cielo and the surrounding area,” Walker added.

YAF is also working with local authorities to get access to the 1 million gallons of water that in the two lakes at the ranch.

The Reagan Ranch served as a vacation home for former President Reagan and has been maintained by the YAF for years.
