A father has been arrested in Florida after a toddler got his hands on gun and fatally shot his mother while she was on a Zoom call.
Altamonte Springs police announced on Tuesday that Veondre Avery was arrested and charged with negligent manslaughter and unsafe storage of a firearm.
The incident took place on Aug. 11, when Shamaya Lynn was on Zoom for work, and the 2-year-old found a loaded gun in a “Paw Patrol” backpack, The Associated Press reported.
A person on the Zoom meeting called 911 after they heard the gunshot and Lynn fell out of frame.
Avery also walked in after the shooting and called the authorities, according to the AP.
“I literally just got home and I come in the room… [and] my girlfriend who was working on the computer, she’s just laid back and there’s blood everywhere,” Avery said on the call.
The authorities arrived and pronounced Lynn dead on the scene.
