Barnes will run for governor

Well, we can cross off one of the top 10 potential game-changers.

As we suspected, former Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes (D) finds the state’s open gubernatorial race more attractive than a run against Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), and Barnes is going to try to reclaim his old office.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Barnes will announce his reclamation project early this afternoon.

His entry in to the gubernatorial race gives Democrats a solid shot at winning the race (and some hope at a say in redistricting), but it renders the state’s 2010 Senate race as boring as it was expected to be.

Unless someone like Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.) opted to take the leap against Isakson, we can probably write that race off.
