A Florida Democratic state sentor announced on Thursday that he will challenge 20 term Republican Congressman C.W. Bill Young next year.
In a statement, Justice emphasized an economic message.
That plus Young’s age (he turned 78 last December) will likely lead to retirement rumors – something that Democrats will encourage.
A spokesman for Young dismissed criticism of the fundraising numbers and any suggestion of retirement, telling the BBR on Wednesday that the Congressman typically doesn’t post high numbers in the first quarter of the cycle. Young, he said, will ramp up his efforts going forward as he usually does.
