Third Dem jumps into race for Tenn. Gov.

Tennessee state Sen. Roy Herron announced on Wednesday that he will run for governor of the Volunteer State, making him the third Democrat in the race so far.

Currently, Nashville businessman Ward Cammack and former state House Majority Leader Kim McMillan are the other declared Democrats in the race.

Several others are reportedly considering it, though. They include state Democratic Party Chairman Doug Horne and Mike McWherter, the son of former Gov. Ned McWherter.

On the Republican side, Congressman Zach Wamp leads the field. Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam has also announced he is running, as has Memphis prosecutor Bill Gibbons. Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, another Republican, has also said he is looking at the race.

Current Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat, is term limited.
