Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina gave her clearest indicuation on Tuesday that she is weighing a run against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D) next year.
“I’m seriously considering a race in California,” Fiorina said, referring to Boxer’s Senate seat, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Fiorina was a frequent surrogate for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) during his presidential run last year and has been speculated to be considering the race. A Field poll at the beginning of March showed the Fiorina would have a lot of ground to make up if she does run; she trailed Boxer by a 55 percent to 25 percent margin in the survey.
A Rasmussen poll taken later in the month, however, showed Fiorina trailing by nine points.
Fiorina, who is fighting breast cancer, would join a small Republican field. state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R) is the only Republican to declare he is running for the seat. Much speculation has focused on whether Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will run, but he recently shot down that notion.
