Poll: Boxer would terminate Ahnold

Here’s a somewhat confusing Field Poll on Sen. Barbara Boxer’s (D-Calif.) re-election prospects. On one hand, she smokes her potential challengers. On the other, a narrow plurality is not inclined to re-elect her.

Hmm.

Boxer would beat Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) 54 percent to 30 percent. That number is pretty bad for governor considering he already has statewide name ID. She would defeat former Hewlett Packard CEO, and frequent surrogate for John McCain (R-Ariz.) during his campaign last year, 55 percent to 25 percent.

Meanwhile, 43 percent say they are not inclined for vote to re-elect Boxer, while 42 percent say they are. Neither Schwarzenegger or Fiorina have committed to running against Boxer.

Let’s go to the numbers.

In the poll also found the Schwarzenegger leads the hypothetical GOP primary, earning 31 percent to 24 percent. California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R) came in third with nine percent.

So what’s going on here? I’m guessing there is some Boxer fatigue but not enough to oust her. Political guru Stuart Rothenberg rates Boxer’s seat as “safe” and Charlie Cook says its “Likely Democrat.” On top of that, it doesn’t look like the GOP has a serious candidate in the field. So far, it looks the governor race has drawn the top Republicans.
