AUC targets Limbaugh in new ad

Below is the new American’s United for Change and AFSCME TV ad that is hitting airwaves today. The ad is interesting for two reasons. First, rather predictably, the ad seeks to paint the GOP as the party of ‘no’ for opposing President Obama’s stimulus package. We’ve already seen this coming from the DCCC and expect to it to be a major talking point for Democrats.

Second, and perhaps most interesting, is that it goes after Rush Limbaugh at the very end. In the events of the past couple weeks are any indication, Democrats appear ready and willing to elevate Limbaugh to a status of leader of the GOP (which likely has a positive effect on his ratings).

“Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the Republican Party,: AUC said in its statement. “He says jump and Eric Cantor and other Republican leaders say how high. Limbaugh is better known among Republicans than any of the Republicans Leaders in Congress and when he speaks they listen and follow just as they did in opposing en masse President Obama’s recovery package.”

The ad goes on the air today on national cable and in the D.C. market and will be on the air through the beginning of next week. Limbaugh, by the way, speaks at CPAC tomorrow at 5 p.m. and then will receive the “Defender of the Constitution award.” Any bets on whether he’ll talk about the ad?
