NRSC formally backs Specter in 2010

National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Chairman John Cornyn (R-Texas) penned a letter to Republicans in Pennsylvania urging them to support Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) in the state’s looming primary battle.

Though the NRSC’s support for incumbents is hardly unusual, the letter marks a formal endorsement for Specter from the national party, which was criticized by some conservatives in 2004 for its active support of Specter over conservative challenger Pat Toomey (who is expected to again challenge Specter).
