Plouffe A Possibility for Biden’s Senate Seat

Barack Obama’s unsung campaign manager David Plouffe has a shot at becoming the next senator from Delaware, reports The Fix’s Chris Cillizza.

With Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) set to become vice president in January, Plouffe could be considered for the seat. Plouffe went to high school in the state and attended the University of Delaware (though he famously left before graduating to work for Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa)).

The assumed front-runner was Biden’s son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, though he will soon be deployed to Iraq with the Delaware National Guard for a year.

Delaware’s governor will decide on who fills the full six years of Joe Biden’s 7th Senate term – he was reelected on the same night he elected vice president. If Biden resigns his seat before January, outgoing Gov. Ruth Ann Minner (D) will make the appointment. If Biden waits until inauguration, Governor-elect Jack Markell will make the pick.
