Civil rights hero and U.S. Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.) told MSNBC, moments after Barack Obama’s ascension to the White House, that he never imagined he would see a black president during his lifetime.
“I never imagined, I never even had any idea that I would live to see an African American become president of the United States of America during the height of the civil rights movement. I never thought, I never envisioned that an African American would become president of the United States in my lifetime,” Lewis said.
“When you really think about it, we have witnessed tonight in America a revolution of values a revolution of ideas–
there’s been a trans of American politics, and it will have unbelievbable influence on the politics of the world,” Lewis said.
