State lawmaker mulling Dem challenge for Specter

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) may be worrying about Republican primary challengers for now, but another Democrat is considering entering the race, and could meet Specter in the general election.

State Rep. Josh Shapiro (D) told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he has met with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) about the race, and is close to making an announcement about the race.

“I expect to make an announcement very soon about how best to move forward,” he said.

National Constitution Center President and former deputy mayor of Philadelphia Joe Torsella is the only Democrat to have officially entered the race.

Specter will face a Republican primary challenge from activist Peg Luksik, while Club for Growth Chairman Pat Toomey is also said to be weighing entering the race.
