Obama Camp: McCain’s Tax Plan Means $3 Trillion More Debt

A new ad from Barack Obama’s campaign accuses John McCain of being a “big spender” when it comes to government funds and claims that his tax plan would add $3 trillion to the national debt.

The ad cites a study by the Tax Policy Center, a joint venture of two liberal think tanks, the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, which shows McCain’s tax proposals lowering federal revenue by just under $3.4 trillion over the next decade while Obama’s plan raises revenue by just over $1 trillion.

McCain has championed lower government spending throughout the campaign, aggressively attacking the congressional earmarks system in stump speeches and accusing the federal government of wasting taxpayer dollars. The new ad, which is set to air in key states, seeks to undermine that image.
