Steele on criticism: ‘That’s the nature of this job, baby’
His first 30 days on the job have been crazy, but it is the nature of the job, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele said Wednesday.
“There are a lot of opinions out there; some come from people who are notable, some from people who are not so notable,” Steele said during an appearance on the Today show to discuss his recent public tiff with conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh. “My job is to try to balance that — I wasn’t that effective at it this week.”
Steele said his first month heading the Republican Party have been “crazy,” but promised to continue rebuilding the GOP brand after last November’s drubbing at the poll — though acknowledging inevitable “hiccups” along the way.
“That’s the nature of this job, baby,” he said. “Everyone puts you at one position or the other, and you just have to work through it and keep focused on your mission.”
“My job is to build my party after a tough two election cycles,” Steele added.
