After receding from the campaign spotlight for months, Barack Obama’s association with former Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson cropped up again today in a new ad from John McCain.
Obama tapped Johnson to head his VP search team in June; Johnson stepped down one week later after a maelstrom of criticism over a preferential loan he received from Countrywide.
McCain’s ad seeks to paint Obama as a hypocrite for calling for corporate oversight in spite of his association with Johnson. Both Obama and McCain have called for tighter regulations on financial corporations after the recent tide of buyouts and collapses on Wall Street.
