Bill Clinton to Fundraise for Gillibrand

Former President Bill Clinton will headline a fundraiser for newly appointed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) according to Gillibrand’s website.

The event will take place in New York City on Wednesday, March 11 at a location yet to be announced. Tickets range from $1,000 to raising $10,000. For $10,000, the ticketholder will receive a VIP photo with Clinton.

Fundraising will be key for Gillibrand. She will run for re-election in 2010 because she was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Secretary of State Hillary Cllinton. She will then run again in 2012, when the New York Senate seat would normally be up. That’s two races in four years in the extremely expensive New York media market.

Several potential challengers already appear to lining up. On the Democratic side, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy has yet to rule out a primary bid and Rep. Carolyn Maloney is also reportedly considering the race. Among Republicans, Rep. Peter King (D) is considering the race and there were reports last week that the National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman Sen. John Cornyn (Texas) met with former New York Gov. George Pataki about a possible run.
