Obama Camp Tries to Raise Money Off of Rove Remark

Barack Obama’s campaign hopes that Karl Rove can help raise money for the Democrat.

The campaign sent an e-mail to supporters Monday calling attention to the GOP operative’s remark that John McCain had gone “too far” in his attacks on Obama.

“McCain has gone, in some of his ads, similarly gone one step too far in sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100 percent truth test,” Rove said on Fox News Sunday. (Rove also knocked Obama, saying that the Democrat’s “lipstick on a pig” remark was aimed at Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R).)

In the e-mail, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe asked supporters to donate money to help Obama combat McCain’s attacks.

“John McCain is running the most negative and dishonest campaign in modern presidential history,” Plouffe wrote. “He has demonstrated that he’d rather lose his integrity than lose this election. It’s right out of the Bush-Rove playbook. Unfortunately, as Karl Rove knows better than anyone, these shameful tactics have worked in the past.”

John McCain is running the most negative and dishonest campaign in modern presidential history. He has demonstrated that he’d rather lose his integrity than lose this election.

It’s right out of the Bush-Rove playbook. Unfortunately, as Karl Rove knows better than anyone, these shameful tactics have worked in the past.

This year, we can’t let that happen.

Our goal is to bring 50,000 new donors into our movement by Friday at midnight.

And if you make your first online donation today, your gift will go twice as far. A previous donor has promised to match every dollar you donate.
