Rep. Weiner Running Strong in NYC Mayor’s Race

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) might make a race out of the 2009 New York City mayoral election, according to a new Baruch College poll.

Weiner trails Mayor Michael Bloomberg 36 percent to 43 percent in a head-to-head matchup, despite the two-term mayor’s enduring popularity. Bloomberg’s job approval rating is 64 percent. The poll’s margin of error is 4.3 percentage points.

Weiner leads other candidates in the Democratic primary. He gets 31 percent of the support while city Comptroller Bill Thompson gets 22 percent. Councilman Tony Avella gets just 6 percent.
