Kaine: Dems Won’t Write Off Any State or Region
Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, the new chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), promised to continue with the so-called “50-state strategy” pioneered by his predecessor, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.
“The results that the DNC has achieved under the strategy speak for themselves,” Kaine said in a web video totaling almost half an hour.
The strategy, which has sought to never discount races in any state, has been credited with expanding the electoral map for Democrats into traditionally Republican territory.
“We’re past the point where we’re going to write any state off, or any region of the country,” added Kaine, who also said the party would examine how to tweak the strategy in coming elections.
“You should never do what you just did yesterday,” Kaine asserted. “What we need to do is sit down and analyze everything in the campaign and everything in the 50-state strategy to determine what is exactly the best thing to do.”
