Nearly Half of Voters Expect Taxes to Go Up in McCain Administration
Almost half of all Americans think taxes would increase during a John McCain presidency, according to the ABC News/Washington Post poll released Monday.
Forty-two percent of voters surveyed said they expected taxes to increase during a McCain administration, just less than the 45 percent they said they expect taxes to increase if Barack Obama is elected president.
A plurality of voters, 44 percent, said they expect taxes to stay the same during a McCain administration. Less than 20 percent of voters for either candidate said they expect taxes to decrease during either administration.
A majority of voters in the survey said they trusted Obama to handle taxes more than they trusted McCain. Fifty-two percent said they trusted Obama, while 41 percent backed McCain.
The poll, conducted October 8-11, has a margin of error of three percent.
