Obama’s Keating Documentary

After launching a website dedicated to John McCain’s involvement in the 1989 Keating Five scandal last night, Barack Obama’s campaign has released a 13-minute online documentary of the scandal.

Read The New York Times‘ account of the scandal here to see how the Obama camp’s explanation measures up.

McCain had largely avoided criticism over the lobbying scandal during the ’08 race until the Obama campaign launched its initiative last night, seeking to grant the scandal new relevance in light of the current financial crisis, as it was a push against banking regulations (and the favors traded for that advocacy) that landed McCain and four other senators in hot water.

The Obama camp e-mailed supporters about the upcoming web documentary last night and informed them about the launch of the new site.

McCain has pushed back today, setting up a conference call for reporters with attorney John Dowd to beat back Obama’s attack.
