Gallup: Dem Congressional Lead Has Shrunk

The lead House Democrats had over Republicans in Gallup’s generic ballot poll has shrunk to nearly nothing.

When registered voters were asked by the polling firm whether they would vote for a Democrat or a Republican in their congressional district, 48 percent said they’d vote for the Democrat while 45 percent went with the GOP. Democrats had double digit leads in the previous generic ballot surveys.

Republicans actually lead Democrats 50 percent to 45 percent when likely voters were asked the same question.

The poll may reflect a temporary convention bounce, as the poll was conducted from Sept. 5 through 7, said Gallup’s Frank Newport. The GOP convention ended on Sept. 5.
