Poll: Paterson’s numbers rebounding?
There is a glimmer of good news for New York Gov. David Paterson (D) in Monday’s Siena Research Institute poll: The percentage of New Yorkers who view Paterson favorably has gone up.
The jump was only four points – from 27 percent to 31 – but it is nevertheless the first time Paterson has broken 30 percent on the question in a Siena poll in four months.
Unfortunately for Paterson, the majority – 57 percent – still have an unfavorable view of him. And seven in 10 said they would prefer to vote for someone else for governor in 2010.
Which brings us to state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. The Democrat had very high ratings in the poll – 71 percent said they view Cuomo favorably.
“A plurality of voters, 46 percent, still believes Cuomo should run for Governor in 2010,” said Siena pollster Steven Greenberg.
In a head to head match up for the Democratic primary, Cuomo beat Paterson 69 percent to 16 percent in the survey.
There was a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points in the poll.
