Obama CPO Nominee Withdraws, Citing Tax Issues

President Obama’s nominee to become the government’s first “Chief Performance Officer” has withdrawn from her nomination, citing personal tax issues.

Nancy Killefer, Obama’s nominee, becomes the third high-profile appointee to become embroiled in personal tax issues, but the first to have withdrawn.

“I have…come to realize in the current environment that my personal tax issue of D.C. Unemployment tax could be used to create exactly the kind of distraction and delay those duties must avoid,” Killefer wrote in a letter to Obama, released by the White House on Tuesday. “Because of this I must reluctantly ask you to withdraw my name from consideration.”

Killefer had previously served as an executive for the consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
