House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday said the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to be the first Hispanic on the the Supreme Court is a “testament to the American values of equality, opportunity and justice.”
Pelosi, the first woman speaker of the House, congratulated Sotomayor for breaking another glass ceiling.
“Her outstanding intellectual achievements – as a student, attorney and judge- make her one of the most qualified nominees in many years,” Pelosi said. “I look forward to her timely confirmation by the United States Senate.”
“Judge Sotomayor’s experiences and understanding of the law will assure a strong voice for fairness on the Supreme Court,” Pelosi also said.
